Poetry Monday

{I cant help it-I rhyme LOL}

Used to Be
I was walking by the water, in a park one summer’s day.
And I came upon a circle of some children lost in play.
It seemed they were just sharing stories; curious, I stopped to hear.
And my eyes grew wide with wonder, when their voices reached my ears.

“When I used to be a grownup,” said a little girl of eight.
“I grew vegetables and children till I couldn’t stand up straight.”

“Well, me? I was a soldier.” Said a boy, no more than four.
“And I had to leave my mommy, just to fight in some old war.”

“I lived in a castle.” They all rolled their eyes. “It’s true!”
The young child of seven huffed and pointed, saying, “What were you?”

“I was no one special.” This one’s voice was low and soft.
“I just rode a train my whole life, helping people on and off.”

“Do you remember dying?” “I remember being born.”
Then their talk was interrupted by a swiftly honking horn.

They all grabbed each other by the hand and ran off to their ride.
But I sat down right there in the grass, feeling changed, somehow, inside.
What was it that I’d witnessed? Dreams the media had jaded?
Just the product of creative minds? Or memories not faded?

The one thing no one can argue…there is magic when we’re young.
There is something shines from children, and we miss it when it’s gone.
As if they’ve not yet shaken off the stardust from their trip.
Oh if we could hold the magic, never loose our stubborn grip.

That night I lay down on my bed, and closed my eyes to see
If somewhere within the quiet, hid those things I used to be.

13 Reasons I Luuurve My Critique Partner

I'm doing this because I think my CP-Crystal Jordan- thought I wouldn't lol.

1. Because she is a hawt erotic paranormal author. Have you read her Wereplanet series? In Ice anyone? And wait until you see In Smoke-coming out June 1st. Whew! I'm hoping she rubs off on me.

2. Because she calls me when she's flossing her teeth or going grocery shopping...just to say hi.

3. Because she told me to. She said "dooo eeeet!"

4. Because she's bloody brilliant about history, the business end of writing, dirty dirty sex, blog code...you name it.

5. Because she knows the best cuss words.

6. Because she talks to my Cookie on the phone about inedible garnishes and the proper way to....okay they talk about things that make me blush.

7. Did I mention she was talented?

8. Without her, and a few other wonderful writer friends, I would not have made it as far as I have.

9. Because she sings to me when I'm bored. {except for the worm song-dont sing the worm song!}

10. I am a better writer because of her help.

11. She is the QUEEN of blurbs and excerpts!

12. Because she makes me laugh.

13. Because she's saving me a room in her mansion/commune when she's famous. As long as I bring my husband the Chef. ;)

Poetry Monday

Okay-here's another song published with Ted Daffen Music, its been requested to be recorded by an up and coming vocalist-though its been a bit and I still dont know where its at in the process...I thought I'd share.
I promise next week I'll put in a cheerful song lol.

WATERFALLS

You are the mountain,
Larger than life.
Strong and unchanging,
Though icy winds freeze you and cut like a knife

You keep your secrets,
Hidden so well
Cool and unyielding
Though inside you burn fires hotter than Hell.
And in all the history of history
You never fell.

I am the river
Flowing and free.
I'm going somewhere,
Though I'm not sure just where somewhere might be.

If I stop for too long
It'll kill me I'm sure.
Movement is my life,
Change me and I'll be a river no more.
But changing the course of a river,
Is what a mountain is for.

Chorus:
And the only time,
That water falls.
Is when it reaches the top of the mountain,
And hears the call.
Sayin' go on and give it a try...
You'll never get another chance to fly.
Though you dont know whats on the other side,
There's no choice at all.
When faced with a mountain....water falls.

You keep me close to you,
Take all I can give.
I give you new life,
You give me shelter and reason to live.

Though I keep searching,
you're holdin on fast.
But our world is changing,
and neither one knows how long its gonna last.
I long for the future,
and you can't let go of the past.

Chorus:
And the only time,
That waterfalls
Is when it reaches the top of the mountain,
And hears the call.
Sayin' go on and give it a try,
You'll never get another chance to fly
Though you dont know whats on the other side,
there's no choice at all.
When faced with a mountain...waterfalls.

13 Reasons To Follow Your Dreams {even when its hard and you're fed up}

I think we could all use a little positive affirmation this week-so I'm going the corny route. :)

1.Because no one else can.

2.Because when you look back on your life, you shouldn't have a single regret.

3.Because if you never take that leap, you'll always wonder if you could have flown.

4.Because you are unique, and what you have to give to the world {your song, your words, your art, your compassion}is a special gift that needs to be shared.

5.Because the alternative is a cubicle/greasy spoon/pinchy shoes/power suit...insert correct awful answer here.

6.Because everyone that came before you that didnt take their chance is rooting for you. Way deep down where their soft inside.

7.Because dreams are the color on our canvas. Without them...whats the point?

8.On a not remotely altruistic note-its good to prove the doubters wrong. ;)

9.Because even when its terrible, horrible, crazy, bipolar...it still feels right.

10.Because when you do you realize there is a lot more to life...a lot more to you than you ever imagined.

11.Because as long as you have breath, each day will bring another chance to succeed.

12.Because studies have shown that following dreams is good for your complexion and will insure a longer, healthier life.

13. I'll end with a quote from a female author who wrote under the male pen name of George Eliot, ironically to insure that she would be taken seriously and not considered just another female writer of 'romances'. heh. "Might, could, would-those are contemptible auxiliaries."

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

-Man of La Mancha/The Impossible Dream

In Her Dreams

I'm going for Poetry Monday. Yes these are song lyrics from a song I have with Ted Daffen Music Publishing. I wrote this 11 years ago-and it blows my mind that I was ever in this place. Things have changed so much. I have love-all my dreams are coming true. But sometimes its good to look back and see where we've been-so we never take for granted where we are.

She's 22 years old, and still afraid of the dark.
Still afraid to live out on her own,
and far too scared to give her heart.
And she's a heartache for her mama,
cause her baby girl wont dare to take a chance.
She doesnt understand the melody of life,
so she chooses not to dance.

Chorus:
But deep in the middle of the night,
her heart views the most amazing sites.
And in every scene she plays the part,
of the beauty that wins, the hero's heart.
Awake she runs from shadows, she blends into the wall,
but in her dreams she has it all

Oh but her dreams are grand,
all adventure and desire.
But then the morning comes,
and she keeps herself so far from the fire.
And she wishes things were different,
yes she wishes every night and every day.
And she's worried that if something doesnt give,
well she might just...fade away.

Repeat Chorus:
But deep in the middle of the night,
her heart views the most, amazing sites.
And in every scene she plays the part,
of the beauty that wins, the hero's heart.
Awake she runs from shadows, she blends into the wall....but in her dreams she has it all.

TAGGED

Okay I have been tagged by several people lol. Lyric James, Crystal Jordan, Havenrich and Kissa. So I'm thinking I better do this :)
Here are the rules:
1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
OK - 8 Random Facts/Habits About Me:

1. I have an addiction to alternative archaeology and strange news sites.

2. My very first ms was accepted recently by Ellora's Cave. {I know I know-I've said it a million times-it never gets old-or easier to believe.}

3. We collect crystals, interesting stones and fossils like ammonites etc. {basically there are more rocks in our house than in our yard}

4. I memorize song lyrics or commercial jingles very easily-usually after hearing it once or twice. {this is an irritating habit that drives other people crazy-but I could make a bundle on Name That Tune}

5. I dance in elevators and down grocery aisles to the musak.

6. I love to give massages. I'm a very touchy huggy person :)

7. My shoes, glasses, and wallet keep trying to run away from me {Cookie says I'm just absent minded and misplace them-but I smell a conspiracy}

8. I can sing the part of the Sea Witch Ursula from Little Mermaid so accurately that I scare young children. Poor Unfortunate Souls. ;)

Almost everyone I know has been tagged-so if you havent and you read this...consider yourself tagged!

13 Reasons I loved Alien Overnight

Alien Overnight By Robin L. RothamCommander Kellen is on Earth recruiting women for his planet's sex-starved males. Not particularly excited by human anatomy, he seeks nothing more for himself than the occasional slaking of his needs with some anonymous female — which shouldn't be a problem, since she'll have to face the other way to accommodate his special anatomical needs.Dr. Monica Teague is thrilled with her ten-year assignment caring for Garathan's sexual recruits. Her quirky looks and childish excuse for a body guarantee she'll never be expected to put out — which is kind of a bummer, now that she's up to her armpits in horny alien beefcake.But, when an overdose of alien pheromones makes Monica drunk off her ass, Kellen quickly claims the odd little doctor before another Garathani realizes what she is. The overdose sparks a violent chain reaction in her, and when Monica finally wakes, she's got the body of a porn star — and two sexy alien mates who are determined to tame her.If only she were as determined not to let them…

I wasnt going to do this again so quickly-but yesterday I had the great privilege of reading Alien Overnight by my friend and fellow diva Robin L. Rotham. WOW. It's out with Ellora's Cave right now and I suggest you get your booty on over there and check this baby out. Here's why:

1. Sexy Aliens. Seriously. These guys are hawt. And funny. And Alpha. Everything an Earth girl could want. And according to all sources-they smell REALLY good {always a plus}

2. Alien sexual spur. Intrigued? You should be.

3. Funky Goth Doctor as a heroine who gets a "special" kind of makeover.

4. Tons of totally awesome alien space gadgets. I want a few of them for my house. Some of them have definite uses ;)

5. The characters. All of them. So rich-so quirky.

6. The storyline. From political undercurrents to painful histories to sexy punishments to explosions to...well there is a lot of stuff going on.

7. Menage-which we all know is near and dear to my heart. But Robin-talented lady that she is-took it to a place that surprised me-in a good way. A way that stayed true to the characters and the storyline. A way that I loved.

8. I finished the novel wanting to see more of that world. Not dissatisfied by any means-just really interested in what was going to happen to all of these characters next. She did kind of leave us with some loose ends {okay I know it was on purpose-now I can't wait for the next one, Alien After All}.

9. And here's the part where we talk about sex. Hot, Kinky, Alien Sex. I'm shocked. Totally shocked. My innocence is ruined forever. I'll never be the same. {I'm planning on reading it again-can you tell?}

10. I loved the secrets the men were hiding about their previous society-very interesting twist! I cant say more-you have to read it.

11. The cover. I know, I know-I waited to mention it but I have serious cover envy. I covet her cover. Sigh.

12. The sex again. I cant get over it. I may need therapy. Or an Alien Invasion of my own. lol

13. From page one until the end-I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Without a hiccup, without question-just a good, sexy, humorous interesting read. Thats the whole point right? Are you clicking the link to buy it yet? You should.

Hooray for High Heels!

I heard the BEST news today! My friend Gemma Halliday's double RITA nominated novel, Spying in High Heels, is in development for a television series on the USA Network!!! It’s currently one of five new shows being developed for their fall 2007/2008 season.Spying in High Heels follows shoe designer Maddie Springer, who in an effort to track down her missing boyfriend, realizes that her knack for fashion also serves another purpose: it makes her a great detective. Maddie's uniquely female perspective helps her pick up clues, using her designer's eye to discern tell tale shapes, colors and patterns, among other things. Along with her best friend Dana, an out-of-work actress, Maddie decides to open a detective agency operating out of her stepfather's hair salon.Not all shows in development make it to the air, but this one should! If you want to see Maddie and Ramirez on the small screen, write to the USA Network and tell them you heard about SPYING IN HIGH HEELS and can’t wait to watch it. Or, if you’ve read the book and liked it, tell them that, too! Contact the programming department at the USA Network:feedback@usanetwork.comIn the meantime, read up on Gemma's books, including Undercover in High Heels & Killer in High Heels.

True Beauty Secrets

I had written a morbid post about hospital visits and my cold-but I found one quote that led me to another-and decided to share them with you.

For attractive lips, speak words of kindess.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. -Audrey Hepburn

Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart ~ Kahlil Gibran~

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I've never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful. ~Author Unknown

I don't like standard beauty - there is no beauty without strangeness. ~Karl Lagerfeld

Taking joy in living is a woman's best cosmetic. ~Rosalind Russell

{and this one is just funny}

I'm tired of all this nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That's deep enough. What do you want - an adorable pancreas? ~Jean Kerr, The Snake Has All the Lines
