COUNTDOWN to CRYSTAL and Contest Question

I want to tell you about Crystal Jordan. She one of my dearest friends, a fellow smutketeer and my "Do EET" CP-that is-the Critique Partner with the mostest, the reason my Children of the Goddess series exists, and why I know what head hopping and info dumping really means and that I shouldnt do it.

More than that-she has had a pretty successful few years as an author. With online successes from publishers like Cobblestone and Wild Rose Press, Samhain and a new one coming out with Ellora's Cave...she's pretty much tamed that tiger. :)

My Menage Months/Contest Question

Tomorrow Book 2 of my Children of the Goddess series, Lux in Shadow, will be released from Samhain Publishing.

I'm pretty excited.

August and September are my menage months. Lux in Shadow is a bi-menage m/m/f

And then September 17th, Piercing the Veil, Book 2 of the Temptation Unveiled series, is a m/f/m menage
with my poor, cursed, sexy Vikings Val and Hawk from Book 1.

I'll talk more about them later though.

It really was pure coincidence that had both my menages coming out so close together. Just a twist of release date fate. But honestly they are two of my favorite stories so far, and no, not just because I happen to LOVE menage stories (though I do)

And it wasn't just because I was returning to familiar worlds in both, though thats always a treat for me.

I just really enjoyed walking with these characters for a while. Linnea from Veil and her determination to protect her child in the face of a truly insane situation

Sylvain and her enjoyment of the simplest of things, like a bubble bath, after thousands of years in hiding.

Finding out that Arygon was not the jerk I believed him to be in the first story. And that Lux wasn't quite as happy go lucky of a playboy as he seemed.

And the brothers Hawk and Val? Well, just finding out how their weird curse came about was fascinating for me. And then seeing how they'd evolved with it, how it didn't break them, made me admire them all the more.

I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I enjoyed getting to know them.

Oh and I'm planning on posting an excerpt from Lux in Shadow here tomorrow to celebrate its release.

At Conference I met two amazing women for the first time. Alexis Fleming and Lyn Cash

These ladies made me laugh, distracted me from my worries, shared recipes with my husband Cookie and invaluable info on this career of writing I find myself in.

Each fantastic authors in their own right, they've done something most close friends who live an ocean away from each other would never attempt...co-writing. And they've pulled it off. More than once and flawlessly.

They have an EC release coming up in August called the Ring of Seduction. This is one no one will want to miss :)

I met some amazing people at conference. Some I knew from the Romance Divas forum and blogging. Some were new and quickly became fast friends.

Someone I've known from the beginning, someone I'm in the blog group TNG with is Loribelle Hunt.

She, along with several others since I'm a bit of a spaz, gave me confidence to pitch and meet with agents and publishers I might have shied away from otherwise.

She is funny, smart, the kind of person you want to watch your back in a dark alley. She's also an incredibly talented writer.

I'm back! I'm exhausted and a little sick, but I met some fantastic people in San Fran. Some new friends, some old friends. I wish I had more pics-but I'll put a couple up this week.

On to the contest! As some of you know, Lux in Shadow, my bi-menage and the sequel to Regina in the Sun, comes out August 19th! I can't wait!

5. I'll be seeing the divas Jax, Robin, Kristen, Jennifer-So many of my favorite people at conference! Woohoo (can you tell I'm excited?)

6. The Cookie and I never got our honeymoon, we havent actually gone anywhere for over six years. No traveling out of state except for a funeral. So this is really such a gift. A hotel room (wink wink)

7. I got the Romance Diva scholarship, and I feel so incredibly blessed that my peers believe in me so much. I'm really pretty darn lucky.

8. My wonderful husband has shown me again today why I was so lucky to catch him. Gotta Love the Cookie.

9. The Cookie will have his harem back! And a two weeks paid vacation from his evil job!

EDITED: 6/23/08 -The story and pictures were sadly a hoax. Which is kind of sad. However, my sentiments haven't changed. So I think this blog post is still valid. Whatever reasons we find that they felt they had to do this, to save the area from further industry etc., I wish they would have gone about it in a different way.

I am surrounded on all sides by the modern

My job and my dearest friends are all connected to me by something I cannot see or hold in my hands. It is not solid. Its this invisible cord of energy, a spiders web that weaves for me relationships and situations I could not even imagine before I experienced it first hand.

My husband takes for granted the magical device that allows him to pause a live television program.

Whats that? Local news? We have too many channels to remember that when we were young there were only four or five. We know about what is going on in Myanmar but had no clue that the apartment around the corner caught on fire.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, in fact its amazing.

Nothing is outside of my grasp. Knowledge not passed down can be Googled, people can be mobilized to join together in solidarity at the same exact time, regardless of timezones.

Then again

I dont know how to fix anything I own. I might remember how Survivorman started that fire in case I got lost in the woods, or the fact that you do something with lard to make soap. But I couldnt run any of the machinery that runs our world. And sometimes I think, when I see Mother Earth shake the dust off, or throw her powerful weight around, that were we to lose these trappings of civilization-I would be the first voted off of the island.

And then I see this:

The BBC reported last night that an uncontacted tribe had been discovered on the border between Brazil and Peru.
According to the Guardian, there are around 100 uncontacted tribes in the world. "Survival International estimates more than half are in the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon."
The National Indian Foundation, a government agency in Brazil, took these photos and published them Thursday. According to CNN,

"it tracks "uncontacted tribes" -- indigenous groups that are thought to have had no contact with outsiders -- and seeks to protect them from encroachment.

They have never seen the things that I have seen, but they could say the same of me. I think it is safe to say that our day to day lives could not be more alien to each other.

We show these pictures on the news and we are fascinated. How can there be a place in the world that our civilization hasn't touched? How arrogant are we?

"Survival International believes some tribes had contact with westerners around 100 years ago, during the rubber boom and subsequently decided not to engage with the outside world."

Maybe they have seen us, and decided our ways were beneath them. Maybe they've never seen a helicopter or small plane and believed it was a Bird God, a messenger with small humans in its belly, screaming out in rage.

It wouldn't be the first time. Look up Cargo Cults on the magical information gatherer Google.

So what is the point of this blog post? I was staring at these pictures of these beautiful, if shocked and disturbed people, and wondering who would have a harder time adapting to the other's world.

I have a feeling it might be me.

13 Magical Books

In less than a week my book, Lifting the Veil, will come out at Ellora's Cave. I am nervous and excited. It was my first, my beginning, my leap into the void.

In the story the heroine, Meru Tanner, receives an ancient book for her birthday. The book is blank, that is until she recites a spell that changes how she sees the world around her, and has the book responding in a very...un-book-like way. :)

There are so many old stories and legends about magical books- even in present day fiction and movies-you can find them everywhere. So I thought I would do my TT on the most recent ones-from the silly to the spooky.

1. Benny from Ella Enchanted. Benny was the boyfriend of Ella's household fairy, who accidentally turned him into a book during a spell gone wrong. The good news is Benny is a fount of info on the whereabouts of individuals and the local geography.

2. Tom Riddle’s talking diary from Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets. Voldermort put his 16 yr old soul into the diary, and when Harry would write a question in the book, the book would soak in the ink...and then respond. That was a mean and evil book/ on a side note-Potter fans should also remember the other book that had large teeth and a bad temper.

3. The Book of Amun Ra and the Book of the Dead in The Mummy Movie. In this movie-the spells in these books literally had the power over life and death. While not sentient-they certainly cause a lot of trouble.

4.The Neverending Story. A book read by a lonely boy, that turns out to be a living story-that requires his imagination to survive.

5.Book of Shadows-Charmed. Holding info on every bad guy the Halliwell family ever ran into-and the spells needed to thwart them.

6. Necronomicon X Mortis-Evil Dead Series-one of my husbands guilty pleasures. Another book with enormous power, and some seriously bad mojo./ Many believe that there is in fact a Necronomicon-others that it was just the creation of an older author...I can't think about it without hearing, "Klatu, Verata...Necktie!"

7. Go Between-Samhain book by Dayna Hart-A pressed fairy book and one sexy hunk of a trapped fairy. Nuff said.

8. The Book of Gramarye-from the children's series The Dark is Rising-made into a movie called The Seeker (just saw it last week lol) In the movie, it can only be read by the seeker, it looks really cool, and it tells him how to retrieve the scattered pieces of light to fight the bad guys.

9. Astoroth's spellbook from Bednobs and Broomsticks, a comic-booklike tomb that tells the legend of the spell the heroes need to help the war effort in WWII Britain.

10. Aha music video for Take On Me. (I'm not reaching lol)-a women gets pulled into a comic book by a sexy hunk. Sounds plausible.

11. The Pagemaster. Home Alone kid hangs out with animated books on a dangerous journey through the library. One of the books sounds like Whoopi Goldberg. :)

12. Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You. aka The Spiderwick Chronicles. An incredibly magical book that a pretty nasty shape-shifting ogre would like to get his hands on.

13. Finally, I think a point can be made that every book is magical, in its ability to take you anywhere, into anytime-and out of your own world...if only for a while.

3. The month of April was sacred to Venus, the goddess of lurve. That has to be a good thing. Yes?

5. April 22nd is Earth Day-and its also the day my first Samhain book Regina in the Sun comes out!!

6. Speaking of that-2 more weeks until Lifting the Veil releases at Ellora's Cave! I'm a little excited. That is April 16th...in case anyone was wondering. ;)

The Song that Started the Story/Poetry Monday

Alot of you know that Regina in the Sun, which will be released by Samhain Publishing on April 22nd, was born out of a distraction.

An RPG game played with fellow authors at the writer's forum Romance Divas-where I was bitten and consequently had to create a character storyline, pick an avatar and a song that best represented my character etc.-in an effort to prove I was still actually doing something constructive while I awaited word on my first ms submission.

As I stared into her eyes I began to hear a song. A song I knew vaguely by an artist most people wouldn't associate with Vampires (ie not NIN lol-though I do love them too), and lyrics that also didn't exactly fit the darkly sexy image usually attributed to creatures of the night.

The song wouldnt stop playing in my head, the image wouldn't leave my mind. I'd stopped playing the game and still she was there. Then one night not long after I had a dream.

Regina was running from something, injured and terrified. She reached a safe haven, a pub of all places, and she heard it...that song. When I woke up I knew I'd just dreamt the first chapter of her story. And though I struggled-having never imagined that I would write a story about vampires-I'm so glad that I got to meet her. To know her. Not to mention finding out about Zander and Lux Sariel ;)

My Interview With Kirsten Saell

I feel so fortunate to have Kirsten Saell with me today. Her debut book, Crossing Swords, comes out this Tuesday at Samhain! Let's take a look...

1. Tell us a little bit more about your upcoming release.
It’s the story of two crazy kids trying to make it in a cockamamie world… Okay, scratch that.

Gil and Lianon are Emissaries—that is, they’re independent contractors who provide occasionally *ahem* permanent solutions to people’s most sticky problems.

Lianon left the business a couple of years ago to settle down in the country with the woman of her dreams. Then one night, a bunch of drunk, bored noblemen destroyed her life, and now that she’s made them pay she’s on the run from the law and is looking to hire a professional to fulfill her death wish and cheat the hangman.

Gil is immersed in a life of single-minded hedonism, doing his best to forget his own personal tragedies and avoid any serious emotional entanglements, when a young man hires him for a fight to the death. When he discovers this young man is really a young woman, he’s furious.

Everyone knows Gil doesn’t do women—professionally speaking, that is—and he’s determined to punish Lianon for her ruse. Of course, on a non-professional level, he can’t help but be intrigued. A very unorthodox courtship ensues, complicated by baggage on both sides. In the end, they need to find a way to thwart the baddie from Lianon’s past, forgive their own failures, and give themselves permission to reach for happiness..

2. Do you remember where you were and what you were doing the day your book was accepted?
Well, I know it was when my stepsons were visiting, so I was probably up to my armpits in kids, dishes, laundry and yard-work. I have no other specific memory of it—just that feeling of rejection-dread turning into that feeling of peeing-your-pants-elated.

3. What is an average day in the life of Kirsten Saell?

4. Who are some of your favorite erotic romance authors?
December Quinn was my intro into erotic romance (both as an author and a reader), and she remains a fave, whether erotic or just straight romance. Kate Pearce is another whose wonderful work really introduced me to the genre.

Bettie Sharp is awesome—anyone who loves a beautiful story should go download her free ebook, Ember, right now…and then buy Like a Thief in the Night from Samhain. I have a real soft spot for Gia Dawn’s Demons of Dunmore; there’s just something about those men!

And Michele de Lully, for making an m/f/f (which I love) work beautifully despite a first person point of view (which I usually detest). I can’t speak so much for print books—the nearest actual bookstore is a four-hour drive from my town. That’s why I love me some ebooks!

5. Could you tell us about your second novel, the sequel to Crossing Swords?
Actually, my second novel is a spin-off of Crossing featuring two secondary characters. It can best be described as “The whore with a heart of gold and the twelve-hundred-year-old virgin”. Kind of a departure from the “spunky, hymen-packing ingénue enchants jaded, oversexed rake” novels we’re all familiar with. The sequel to Crossing will be finished as soon as it grows itself to maturity (I really have no say in the matter, trust me).

6. Are you a serious plotter?
Well, there’s this guy who’s been bugging me at work, so I thought I’d write an open letter to my local paper accusing him of downloading Barry Manilow songs and gay por---what? Ohhhhhhh, that kind of plotter.

Um, yeah. Not at all, really. My stories kind of grow organically. They’re like the weird, ropey, slimy xeno-bio-architecture of the queen’s egg chamber in the Alien movies. The scenes just come to me. I write them and hope I don’t end up having to carpet-bomb a butt-load of words if things don’t work out.

Of course, that makes it really hard to force things when you can’t figure out a way to make everyone die who needs to die, everyone survive who needs to survive, and let the hero be a hero while not making the heroine look like a dumb-ass. But what can I say? Sometimes it all just falls into place.

7. What comes first for you, the storyline or the characters?
Usually the characters. I actually wrote a first draft of the opening scene (minus the public sex part, *ahem, AHEM*) for Crossing when I was seventeen, but didn’t know where to take the story. I just had these two odd, cool people meeting in a tavern, and no idea what happened next. Then, almost twenty years later as I got interested in erotic romance, suddenly it hit me where these two unusual people needed to go. I dug the handwritten copy out of my file-box, rewrote all my hideous, youthful, mauve-tinted prose, and got those two lost souls together.

8. What has been the most difficult aspect of being a writer?
Well, my nickname at Romance Divas is “Dust Bunny Diva”. Let’s just say, being a writer and getting other stuff done are often incompatible concepts.

Right now, there are dishes in the sink (and on the counter, and on the table, and pretty much strewn across the length and breadth of my house), a bathroom in desperate need of a HAZMAT team, and about nine days worth of clean laundry waiting to be folded and put away. And the dust bunnies. My god, the dust bunnies. Prioritizing is hard, because as much as you want the writing to take precedence, there are always going to be other things that need attention.

On the other hand, writers tend to be very good at compartmentalizing. See, I’m sticking all that housework in my mental closet and shutting the door on it. Shhhh. It doesn’t even exist anymore…

9. What has been the best and/or most surprising aspect of your writing journey?
The fact that there are people out there (however few and deluded) who want to read my words. That amazes me every day.

10. Is there any advice you have to aspiring authors who want to be published?
Do your research. Not just story-wise, but business-wise. Whenever I log onto one of my yahoo groups, I glance at the “yahoo questions”, and more often than not, there’s some variation on “How much do I have to pay to have my book published?” And that’s just sad, considering the plethora of information out there for newbs.

Google will lead you to hundreds of good resources (like Writer Beware, Miss Snark, or December Quinn’s How to Choose a Publisher series) that will give you a feel for the business, whether it’s epublishing or New York. I’m the cautious type. Before I even sent out a query, I spent months researching sales info, guidelines, author recs, etc, and also observing on industry and reader venues how the representatives of various companies conducted themselves online.

I was really fortunate. Samhain is a class act all the way. They were my first pick and they wanted me, yay! If I hadn’t done that initial recon into the business, I might not realize just how lucky I am to be with them. So my advice would be do your research and don’t be in a hurry. And remember: money is supposed to flow toward the author!

Today I am so excited to welcome Red Garnier! She has some amazing releases out with Ellora’s Cave and Loose Id-and readers and writers alike are singing her praises—if you’ve read her you’ll understand why.

Red, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. You have an upcoming Amethyst release for EC’s Jewels of the Nile series. Can you tell us a little bit about Amatista?

Amatista is a foray into a fantasy world, in a virgin planet, inhabited by a savage tribe known as the Fohers. The humans, as they are wont to do when they find new, untried lands, are tearing down trees to build their compounds, and are in search of the greatest treasure of them all. The river of amethysts, known as Amatista.

One woman has the map, a map only a Foher could read. This woman, Liana, will embark on a journey of self-discovery, while desire for Kavi, the Foher who’s captured, her grows deep. It isn’t an easy journey, but then the best never are.

You’ve mentioned that your book, Spin Devil, holds a special place in your heart as your first. Do you remember what you were doing when you got the call (email)?

I sure do, R.G. I was vacationing with my family, one day before New Year’s, and was ready to go to bed. So I check my email just one more time (I am an impulsive email-checker, as I’m sure you’ve noticed!) and see an email from my EC editor Kelli, saying she’d read Spin Devil, loved it, and wanted to buy it for her new Exotika line. Not only that, but I had already subbed the second book in the series, Spin it Again, and she had already read it loved it, too! I jumped up and down, woke my husband, didn’t get a wink of sleep, and the next day I was toasting to a New Year and my very first contract!

What is an average day like in the Red Garnier household?

Boring to everyone except me, I’m sure. I wake up the kids, dress them for school, wave them off, then cozy up to my coffee and start with the morning email check. I exercise after I post up a blog and answer emails, then get back to the computer to write for two or three hours. When the kids return from school, the afternoons belong to Red Garnier in her chauffer’s cap, driving around town with inspiring music and two disgruntled kids who want to listen to something other than romantic tunes. As soon as I get home I do yet another impulsive email check, bathe the kids, do the dinner thing, feed hubby (burp him, as he teasingly tells me) and THEN I grab the feather boa, the pink slippers, put the thinking cap on, and sit down to write. I love my evenings, when all is quiet and I can truly concentrate.

You know I have a hard time choosing favorites, but do you have a favorite hero from your books?

I have two. Sebastian from Spin Devil, an all time favorite of mine. He’s rough around the edges, with a broken heart inside. And Patrick Holden from Divine Assistant. He’s just arrogant and adorable. I am head over heels for both!

What is your process? Are you a plotter or what everyone lovingly refers to as a pantser?

I definitely fly by the seat of my pants. I start with characters, let them loose, and let them take it from there. They never fail to surprise me, and I never fail to be amused!

I was snooping on your website and noticed we share some first reads in common-Johanna Lindsey and Jude Deveraux. I’ll talk to you about Lindsey’s Futuristic Warrior series later . Who is your current favorite? Which author makes you drop everything and settle in for the duration—and why?

Oh R.G. don’t start on Johanna Lindsey or Jude Deveraux! I adore each and every book of theirs. I think my all time favorites will always be my all time favorites, but I have lots of new favorites. I love to read new authors, because I love not knowing what to expect, and I’m always pleasantly surprised by their talent. I love reading my author friend’s—they’re such a talented bunch! And aything from Brava will keep me reading until the wee hours of the night.

As writers I know we spend a lot of time at our computers. What is your favorite activity away from yours?

I love driving my car around when there’s not too much traffic. I love being outside—reading outside. Spending time with my hubby and kids, you can’t beat that. And of course movies. I love movies, romantic ones, of course.

Can you give us a sneak peek at what we can expect in 2008? Are there more Devilish Games in our future? Any works in progress you’re particularly excited about?

Yes, there probably will be more Devilish Games in the future, though I’m barely at the idea stage which might take a while. I’m excited about writing a full novel-length. I’ve got a rough idea, the characters seem ready to leap, so I’m going to roll up my sleeves pretty soon and get cranking. Hopefully it won’t be too hard!

Finally, what has been the most surprising aspect of your journey as a writer so far?

Oh, whew. It is hard work being a writer. Promoting your books, being professional in your dealings with editors, other writers, reviewers and readers (that means no foot stomping and no tantrums, of course!) When you have deadlines, you have to meet them. And every book sets a new standard for you, so keeping it up to that level is sometimes quite stressing (ask my therapist, lol!) But there is absolutely NOTHING I would change. I love every bitty part of it. Even a discouraging piece of news, a rejected submission, or a not so good review, has some positive learning experience to offer. I LOVE it!

Welcome to day one of my February celebration. If you missed the contest I and a few of my fellow EC authors are having this month-look down at my previous post-the prizes are pretty cool if I do say so myself.

This week Red Garnier, an amazingly talented erotic romance author-releases a novella for the Jewels series called Amatista. Luckily, I got to read this book. It was so good-I had to sing about it...and so do you. LOL

Man Language

My husband Cookie says that men have an interesting way of communicating beyond the usual grunts and shoulder punches. Its called Man Language.

Basically, its a barrage of quotes from guy flicks--usually Arnold films like Predator and Terminator--but with a some classics thrown in. The Dirty Dozen, Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns and the ever popular...Army of Darkness.

He says that a single phrase or Yeeeaayaa Arnold groan can say to another man what it might take hours to express to a woman. Men just get it.

Had a rough day at work? Want to punch your irritating boss?

the man will respond with an understanding quote from the same movie...its a complex process LOL

Great News to Celebrate-What has happened this past month?
1. In the past month I have had three books accepted. Regina in the Sun by Samhain, Who Wants to Date a Superhero? {a novella for the Jewels of the Nile series}by Ellora's Cave, and Piercing the Veil {book two of my series to be named later lol}also by EC

2. My friend Crystal Jordan-on top of her previous sale to Kensington for a Sexy Beast Anthology, was offered a two book deal by the same pub-one of them sight unseen!

3. Another friend, Eden Bradley just sold again-this time to Harlequin Spice. YAY!

4. My husband got the highest review possible by the head honchos at work. I didnt doubt it for a minute. :)

5. Lillian Feisty-aside from being a fantastic author-has started Dear Feisty on her blog every Monday. Go ask a sex question-she'll answer-and one of you will get a fantastic t-shirt. I want one.

6. I was made paranormal co-liaison for romance divas. I'm excited to be able to give a little back to the community that has given me so much.

7. Babe King sold a short story to Adam's Media publishing-"Pearls, Geeks and Kings" Her titles always make me smile :)

8. Sharon Cullen sold her romantic suspense Deception to Samhain

9. Robin L. Rotham has been kicking butt on Amazon with Alien Overnight. And even better, rumor has it she is working on the sequel Enemy Overnight as we speak! I cannot wait!

10. Gwen Hayes, a fellow diva, is having a great month. She sold her first novella to Freya's Bower, won a Feisty t-shirt with an interesting ball question LOL, AND she won Crystal Jordan's blog contest and a free copy of her book Open Season. Go Gwen!

11. Crystal helped change my book section on my website. I dont know what I would do without her techy skills. :)

October 6th, 32 years ago, my husband Cookie, the main man of the Smutketeers and head of his very own Diva harem, was born.
Poor guy, for the last two years our friends have decided that the perfect date to get married was his birthday. So after he goes to work, we are headed off to the reception. Nice for our friends-bad for Cookie. And next weekend-when we scheduled his party-his grandfather's party was planned as well. So next Saturday will be busy-and poor baby doesnt get his own special day.
So I am declaring it official Cookie Day on my blog. Show him some birthday lurve!

Romance Divas Anniversary Essay Contest Oct 1st-Nov 1st
My entry- It's very easy to give love to such a great community. :)

It was an accident.

One of those random searches for information that leads you somewhere, a place you didn’t even know existed. I had written this story. Written The End for the first time in my life and I wanted to submit it. But I had no idea how to write a synopsis, a query, an email. None of it. So I searched.

I found articles by Kristen Painter and Gina Welborn on some site called Romance Divas. They were clever and informative. And they had a forum! Surely there would be someone who knew more than I did. Not that it would have been hard. So I joined.

How do I describe the year that’s followed? How stumbling on this site has changed my world so drastically? And yet, it has. I had written a story, but the divas helped to make me a writer.

I am loathe to admit all I didn’t know when I decided to chuck it all and follow my dream. I joined the RWA, learned about head hopping, got a blog and a website. All with the information and patient help offered on the forum.

And the people. Diva Sienna helped me with my very first questions about submitting. Diva Cia showed a welcome, open kindness that I have rarely witnessed before or since. Diva Sherice allowed me the joy of sharing the Christmas spirit with all by making me an honorary elf.

I’ve found kindred spirits, honest readers, two amazingly talented critique partners that I’m hoping will rub off on me—friends. Those kinds of friends you are lucky to count on one hand, the kind that you know you’ll have for the rest of your life.

There have been obstacles in my path, my own impatience and insecurity chief among them. I can’t fathom where I would have been if I didn’t have the support of this haven, this home.

Based on my previous life choices, I may have given up, allowed the doubting voice in my head to convince me to stop reaching for the stars and start filling out applications for a “real job”. Always wondering what could have been instead of creating my own path.

But I was blessed with a group of women, and a smattering of men, who wouldn’t let me falter. They were my cheering section, my whip wielders, the people who snapped me out of my self-sabotaging ways. And one short story and 4 book acceptances later, I know I will never be able to thank them enough.

It was an accident. If you believe in accidents. But I don’t. So all I can do is count my blessings or whatever good karma I had accrued that brought me there that fateful September day.

Maybe I would have gotten here eventually on my own. But success would not have been as sweet, my days as full of laughter and friendship, my continued growth as assured...if I hadn’t found my Divas.

Not All Who Wander Are Lost

“Do not do what I have done.” I heard my mother’s plea.
There was worry in her voice, worry for the future me.
“Do not wander aimless, better to grow roots instead.
You’ll be safer far than I am, don’t you know what lies ahead?”
Though the words were true and loving, bent on saving me from strife.
I was still surprised she couldn’t see the wonder of her life.
This woman, gypsy, faerie sprite
This friend to all she knew.
Had seen more world than most, and done things few would dare to do.
“You simply cannot run away, trust me child I know.”
But wouldn’t I be running if I settled? Can we grow,
If we do not walk in sunlight, never chase a rainbows end?
Never journey halfway round the world to help a needy friend?
Can we be happy if we are not true to who we are?
Is it right, that we lose sight of our own wandering star?

If my soul is a tree, then my roots grow in the hearts
of all those loves I’ve gathered on my journey since its start.
Watered with a million different vistas, different roads.
Fed by my imagination, life’s adventure my abode.
To respond I couldn’t find the words, so used Tolkien and Frost.
“I took the road less traveled” but “Not all who wander are lost.”

What I Wear

I want to wear a pair of low rise bad ass,

And a smile called I like to be spanked.
But all I have in my closet are hand me downs
Clumsy clothed apologies.

Outside I'm a buttoned up whisper of, "please."
For him in our room I can slip on some sexy
But when he is gone for the day

I was a tad blue-possibly post conference hohums-so I thought I'd do a good news TT.

1. Crystal Jordan got an offer from Kensington for In Ice {my favorite story btw}!

2. Eden Bradley just kicked some serious Playboy butt in a radio interview yesterday to promote her book The Dark Garden. YAY!

3. The Feisty has been invited to send her stuff to an AMAZING agent!

4. Last week I got to meet some wonderful friends from divas! {SELA ROCKS THE KARAOKE HOUSE!}

5. I experienced my first little taste of edits for my book and didnt have a heart attack! YAY

6. Tawny's daughter got married! Seriously-I still dont believe she's old enough to have a daughter legally able to wed.

7. Jennifer Leeland made her first book trailer and its cool!

8. Dayna sold another book!

9. Shelli won an SOM award at the PI luncheon!

10. I had my makeup done and got to wear a shirt that cost more than my grocery bill-Hello Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. :)

11. I havent worn shoes for five days-even when I ran errands. {my feet love me lol}

12. I'm almost done writing my third book!

13. And finally-most of you know but-I got my cover from Ellora's Cave!!! I love it! Here it is
