Positive Poetry Monday

My mother used to say this to me when I was younger. I'm not sure who wrote it-but it always cheered me up and inspired me.

If you think you are beaten - you are
If you think you dare not - you don't
If you'd like to win, but think you can't
It's almost certain you won't

If you think you'll lose - you've lost
For out in the world you'll find
Things begin with a person's will
It's all a state of mind

If you think you're outclassed - you are
You've got to think high to rise
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or the faster man
Sooner or later the one who wins
Is the one who thinks they can!

This got me through many a moment when I figured any normal person would give up. So glad you shared this on the Poetry Train.

I think I've heard this when I was younger as well. I try to live my life like this. Stay focused and stay positive - good things will happen. :)

Oh, I'm copying this, if you don't mind. Just the words I needed right now. Thanks.

It reminds me of a Rudyard Kipling poem, but I don't think it's him. At any rate, it's dead-on right.

I ought to hang it on my son's forehead. Maybe the wisdom will seep into his brain.

I believe that this is Napoleon Hill from a book called Think and Grow Rich.

It's one of those times when the words reached higher than the author understood that they could. I love it!
