Poetry Monday

Dirty Pollyanna

I will be your blanket
But I will not be the rug you trod.
That rug you never thank it,
And you ground in dirt the way you clod-about
In thoughtless, heavy steps,
But I don’t begrudge you warmth at all
You may not ever push me down-
But I will never let you fall
I would put you out were you on fire, even burn for you
But I won’t be a target for your ire, though I have its true
Been foolish in the past with choices that my heart made when naïve.
I wouldn’t change those choices now, not for the world,
You can’t conceive
That kindness doesn’t equal weakness,
I have armor made of light
I hug your inner child till they submit and give up trying to fight.
It’s not the meek who shall inherit
But the kindest of the pack
Ahimsa is our battle cry,
Harming none our only tack
I can be gritty,
Fluffy,
Raunchy,
Angry,
Wallowing in vice.
Just a dirty Pollyanna,
Naughty if you’re lucky,
But not ashamed of nice.

The poem really gains momentum and strength as it goes along. I especially love the ending:

can be gritty,
Fluffy,
Raunchy,
Angry,
Wallowing in vice.
Just a dirty Pollyanna,
Naughty if you're lucky,
But not ashamed of nice.

I think I'd consider myself a dirty Pollyanna.

My PT entry is up too. More of Magda and Georgios.

love those lines. the image of a blanket taking blows like a punching bag... wouldn't be a very satisfying target for ire, having little more resistence than the air behind it. great metaphor.

Lol a carpet and a dirty pollyanna! That's a way to mix those metaphors :) I really enjoyed this. It had a nice rhythm and evoked a response. Thanks for sharing.

Once again, I'm loving my stop here. Very, very good. Oh, I've been called Pollyanna and dirty, so yeah, I liked this one.

R.G., this is a poem so many women can relate to -- awesome! (I'm a dirty Pollyanna, too. :D)

okay - did you write this one or did i channel it to you? or are we like having late night coffee chats while sleeping cuz this is spooky. One of the reasons i get violent when tagged with "nice" is that polly-battle not to be labeled a doormat. i like the dirty polly aspect though - makes me wanna give you a big ol' hug because i find that concept entirely embraceable.

Thanks everybody!I'm glad so many of you relate :)

rhian-maybe we are lol-Yeah, sometimes I feel like "nice" is a pat on the head dismissal when I want to be taken seriously-be a peer-even occasionally wear leather lmao

Strong opening lines. I agree with Christine - really picks up momentum. And a very universal sentiment for women everywhere.

Wow-what a wonderful piece and gorgeously written!
I used to be a dirty Pollyanna, so I can relate. Of course, now I'm just dirty. ;)

Neat concepts you've got here. I really like the whole carpet thing that you start off with -- but the ending really kicks. Strong woman, there. My favorite kind.
